The two Candles that God Lit will shine in the altars of the world!

PAFRJA75x11

Today, the 20th of April 2017, Pope Francis, meeting with the cardinals in a consistory, announced that the canonization of Francisco and Jacinta Marto will take place on the 13th of May 2017, in Fatima, on the celebration of the centennial of the apparitions and during the pilgrimage of His Holiness to the Shrine of Fatima.

It is cause of great joy for the Postulation for the Causes of Francisco and Jacinta Marto to know that these children, who generously responded to the calls of the Angel of Peace and of Our Lady of the Rosary, will be canonized, becoming models of Christ-like life for each of us and for the universal Church.

We remember, with appreciation, what Pope Saint John Paul II said on the 13th of May 2000, on the day of their beatification: “The Church wishes to put on the candelabrum these two candles which God lit to illumine humanity in its dark and anxious hours. May they shine on the path of this immense multitude of pilgrims”. Thus, the joy that Jacinta and Francisco felt when they saw Our Lady becomes now our joy, because the first two non-martyr children to be proclaimed saints in the whole of Church history shine in the heavens and on earth.

Nights of Light in Valinhos and Aljustrel

Multimedia immersive itinerary marked the centennial of the apparitions of the Angel.

On the 24th, 25th and 26th of June, Valinhos and Aljustrel were illumined by “The Light of the Angel”, a multimedia immersive itinerary proposed by the Shrine of Fatima to mark the centennial of the apparitions of the Angel to the three little shepherds.

“The apparitions of the Angel are an authentic «portico» that open the entrance to the Fatima event and its message, by explicitly or implicitly proposing its most important dimensions”, said the rector of the Shrine of Fatima during the presentation of this project.

The project authored by the Ocubo atelier gave life to some of the places in which the little shepherds were graced with the experience of the manifestation of God in their lives.

“The beauty offered by the place where the Multimedia Immersive itinerary “The Light of the Angel” took place calls for contemplation and interiorization of the presentation that the Ocubo atelier created and developed – seeking to interpret and transpose the message of Fatima to a multimedia language – in order to involve those present and captivate the attention of the visitors”, said Nuno Maya, creative director of the Ocubo atelier.

The Multimedia Immersive Itinerary offered everyone present video mapping projections in the façades of the Seers’ houses, in the places of the three apparitions of the Angel and in the monument of the Valinhos, while at some given points of the itinerary there were some installations of light adapted to the environment that were intended at offering a unique experience of the place.

Multidisciplinary performance reminds the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima to the Little Shepherds

20160511_155125

The multidisciplinary performance “Fatima – The day the sun danced” took place in the Paul VI Pastoral Centre, on the 11th, 13th and 15th of May.

Throughout the presentations, the Paul VI Pastoral Centre seemed small given the number of people willing to attend the show.

The pre-premiere of the performance was on the 11th, with the presence of the schools of Fatima. Four schools were invited and attended the show.

On the 13th and 15th, the show was open to the public who seized this unique opportunity and was present in great number.

After the various presentations here in Fatima, the show will be staged in Portugal, in the Municipality Theatre of Bragança, and in Brazil, in several cities like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Recife, Natal, and others.

“Fatima – The day the sun danced” is a multidisciplinary performance promoted by the Shrine of Fatima in the context of the program of the Centennial of the Apparitions, and was developed by the Vortice Dance Company.

It is a project that, evoking the apparitions of Fatima and its reflection in contemporary history, seeks to draft a portrait of the event that marked the twentieth century.

With the signature of the choreographers and artistic directors Cláudia Martins and Rafael Carriço, the show evokes the presence of Our Lady «all clothed in white, more brilliant than the sun» before three children of Aljustrel, Lúcia, Jacinta and Francisco, seeking to establish a parallelism between this encounter and the present time.

The luminous portrait of the Lady pointing the rosary as an instrument of peace in the world, the dramatic portrait of hell as a horizon of human auto-reference, the beautiful and challenging portrait of the Heart without stain, which offers itself for love, or the apotheotic portrait of the sun dancing to the rhythm of the blessing of God, find parallel in present situations in which faith, hope and charity inspire an attitude of courage, of generous self-giving and perseverance, of prayer as an encounter with God and with brothers.

The show, with a contemporary language, crosses different artistic disciplines like dance, video, video mapping, figuration in hologram, 3D scenography, recyclable costumes and joins artists from different nationalities who, by interpreting the sense and the reach of the message of Fatima, search to project it to the light of our days.

“With the little shepherds, let us now begin, and always persist”

13maio

The 13th of May this year was lived with great emotion by a great multitude who gathered in Fatima to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady.

Besides the celebration of the 99 years of the apparitions, this was also the occasion to celebrate the 16 years since the beatification of the Little Shepherds: Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

“By divine design, she came from Heaven to this earth, in search for the little privileged of the Father, «a Woman clothed with the sun» (Rev 12, 1). She talks to them with a voice and heart of a mother: she invites them to offer themselves as victims of reparation, and she offers Herself to lead them, secure, up to God. It was then that in her maternal hands came a light that intimately penetrated them, feeling immersed in God like when a person – they explained – contemplates him/herself in a mirror”, refers St. John Paul II in the homily of Beatification, on the 13th of May 2000.

On that occasion, the Holy Father referred that “with this this rite the Church wishes to put on the candelabrum these two candles which God lit to illumine humanity in its dark and anxious hours. May they shine on the path of this immense multitude of pilgrims and of all who have accompanied us by radio and television. May Francisco and Jacinta be a friendly light that illumines Portugal and, in a special way, this Diocese of Leiria-Fatima.”

In the year 2000 as now in 2016, the presidents of the celebration talked about the need of conversion mentioned by Our Lady to the little shepherds, when she asked them to pray for the conversion of sinners.

Mary taught the little shepherds to pray:” it’s been a century, it was only Her, teaching three children to pray that way. Today, we are many and learning also. But it’s like children that we enter in a Kingdom from earth to heaven. With the little shepherds, let us now begin, and always persist”, said the most reverend António Marto, bishop of the Diocese of Leiria-Fatima.

Official biography of Lucia presented in the House of Candles

IrmãLucia

On the 31st of March, the House of Candles received the presentation of the book Lucia, the life of the little shepherd of Fatima, written by Thereza Ameal and illustrated by Pedro Rocha e Mello. The presentation was done by Sister Angela de Fátima Coelho, postulator for the cause of canonization of blessed Francisco and Jacinta Marto and vice-postulator for the cause of the beatification of Sister Lucia.
The book is directed to children and youth and intends to be a faithful portrait of the life of the seer of Fatima, since her childhood to her last days. It’s an official biography that, with joyful illustrations, intends to captivate children and youth to the life of this singular woman in the history of the Church and of Portugal.
According to the author, «Lucia was – and was not – a girl like the others. […] Because since the day in which she saw, in the company of her cousins Francisco and Jacinta, Our Lady on top of the branches of the holm oak tree, in Fatima, and talked with her, she committed herself into the hands of God without reservations».
In front of the audience that was present in the House of Candles, Sister Angela reminded that Lucia was the protagonist of a life history that occurred at the same time as a particular time in human history, to which neither her life nor the message she witnessed were indifferent. This implication in the history of humanity is highlighted in the book presented.
Thereza Ameal is a graduate in History and collaborates in different pro-life initiatives, pilgrimages and spiritual retreats for couples in crisis and for people without faith. She is also coordinator and co-author of other works for children, such as: Our Lady in the History of Portugal; My first prayers; Prayers for all occasions; Pray, Sing and Grow.
Pedro Rocha e Mello is a graduate in Multimedia Art and has been working as an illustrator and freelancer for clients in different areas.
